One thing to keep in mind is that Red River is located 8650 feet above sea level. This altitude keeps our air cool, and provides plenty of sunshine, but it may take a little getting use to. Fortunately Red River is surrounded by trails and walking areas that are a perfect introduction to our climate and the Carson National Forest. A few examples are the Mallette nature walk, the Red River nature trail, Pioneer trail, and the Middle Fork trail (slightly more difficult). |

When you're ready, then it's time to really have fun. In the summer you can enjoy horseback riding, 4-wheeling, white-water rafting, fishing, big game hunting, tennis, basketball, volleyball, skating, mountain biking, and countless other activities. There are jeep tours, ATV tours, and during the evenings, cowboy cookouts and astronomy tours. Often a great way to get started is by hiring a guide, or go on a group tour where you leave the driving to someone already familiar with the territory. |

Wintertime offers a whole host of other activities to enjoy. They include downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and tubing. Sitzmark Sports, in conjunction with Sitzmark Lodge, offers a whole range of ski and snowboard equipment. It's difficult to find a more convenient place to enjoy winter sports than the Sitzmark Lodge. Sitzmark Lodge and Sitzmark Sports are in the same building, and the main ski lift is literally across the street from the lodge. Of course, Sitzmark Sports caters to skiers and snowboarders of all skills. |

We still haven't covered everything there is to do in and around Red River. Here are some more ideas: Take a ride up the chair lift to the top of the ski mountain; listen to a band at midday in one of our two public parks; go on a picnic along one of the nature trails; go on a day trip to the Valle Vidal (make sure you bring your binoculars and your fishing gear); sit on a park bench and watch the river flow by your feet; take a jeep up to Greenie Peak and Midnight Meadow (and get a bird's eye view of Red River); or enjoy a challenge by hiking up to Lost Lake (11,500 feet). We hope you get the idea. There's always something to do in Red River. |

In the evenings there are restaurants, bars, and dancing, and after a long day of 4-wheeling, skiing, or scaling Wheeler Peak (the tallest mountain in New Mexico reaching 13,161 feet), nothing is more satisfying than relaxing, talking about the day's events, and thinking about what you'll do tomorrow. The best part is that Red River makes it easy. Once you are here, you may never get back in your car again (until it's time to go home). Like many of our visitors, we hope to make you into a regular, and we'll look forward to seeing you again at the Sitzmark Lodge. |
